Luther and Nagging Wives

Church fathers scare us at times.  We always think of how holy and righteous they are, thus they become akin to superheroes for us.  It is always nice to hear that they were human, too (like Peter’s mistakes).

Luther is especially enjoyable to read.  There was a hardly a Reformer more human than he.  I can often find reason to laugh with some of us his quotations.  Take this one on nagging wives for example:

If a man can have his wife in bed, he ought not complain about her incessant nagging, for ‘he who wants a fire must endure the smoke.’”
